K-Hold is used to treat Hyperkalemia (high level of potassium in the blood) associated with kidney conditions such as anuria, severe oliguria, chronic kidney disease. Too much potassium in your the can sometimes cause heart rhythm problems. Sodium polystyrene sulfonate works by helping body get rid of extra potassium. K-Hold is also used to reduce high potassium levels in patients who are undergoing regular dialysis.

COMPOSITION:
Calcium Polystyrene Sulphonate Powder 16 gm
MODE OF ACTION:
Each gram of resin has a theoretical in vitro exchange capacity of about 1.3 to 2 millimoles of potassium. However, in vivo, the actual amount of potassium bound will be less than this. The resin is insoluble in water. Calcium ions in the stomach in exchange for hydrogen ions. When the resin reaches the large intestine the hydrogen ions are exchanged for free potassium ions; the resin is then eliminated in the feces.
INDICATIONS
• Hyperkalemia
DOSAGE
Adult – 15 g (1 Sachet) three to four times daily.
Children – 1 g/kg of body weight in divided doses.
