UZUPAS contains Lactulose Solution. Lactulose is a laxative derived from lactose. Lactulose is a synthetic disaccharide formed from D-galactose and fructose. UZUPAS as a prebiotic substance strengthens the growth of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. It helps to treat chronic constipation and to treat or prevent hepatic encephalopathy or coma.
UZUPAS
COMPOSITION:
Lactulose Solution 10 gm/15 mL
MODE OF ACTION:
Lactulose is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and no enzyme capable of hydrolysis of this disaccharide is present in human gastrointestinal tissue. As a result, oral doses of lactulose reach the colon virtually unchanged. In the colon, lactulose is broken down primarily to lactic acid by the action of colonic bacteria, which results in an increase in osmotic pressure and slight acidification of the colonic contents. This in turn causes an increase in stool water content and softens the stool.
INDICATIONS
In Constipation, Hepatic Encephalopathy or Systematic Portal Encephalopathy (SPE)
DOSAGE
Hepatic Encephalopathy: Start with 30-45 ml, 3 to 4 times a day, adjust dose every 1-2 days to produce 2-3 soft stools per day.
